TOPIC: TV is harmful for children. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Cách nhận diện câu hỏi:

To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Do you agree or disagree?
Do the advantages outweight the disadvantages?
Is it a positive or negative phenomenon?

Bài luận của bạn có thẻ là một hoặc hai mặt của vấn đề. Bạn chỉ có thể đưa ra ý kiến của mình hoặc bạn cũng có thể nói về quan điểm ngược lại.

Cấu trúc của bài IELTS Writing Task 2- Type Opinion như sau:

INTRODUCTION	Introduce the topic Give a thesis statement (say what your opinion is)
BODY PARAGRAPH 1	Topic sentence Supporting idea Example

Note: If you have more ideas and write fast then it is possible to have more than 2 body paragraphs.

CONCLUSION

Conclusion signal (‘In conclusion,’)
Restate thesis (opinion)
Summarise your main points
Optional: Give a comment on the topic, such as a suggestion or warning

OPINION ESSAY- TEMPLATE

Introduction:

Many people argue that……….. Personally I completely agree/disagree with this view.
It is true that many people prefer to…… While nobody can deny ………….. However/ Personally, I completely agree that………
It is argued that……………………I strongly agree with this view for the following reasons/ justifications.

Body

There are two main reasons why……

One reason is that……. For example…..
Furthermore………….

Apart from the practical benefits/ disadvantages expressed above, I believe that……

Firstly……
Secondly…..

Conclusion

In conclusion, it seems to me that…..
In conclusion, for the reasons I have mentioned above, I strongly believe that…..

Exercise: Write an introduction for each topic.

1. Some people who have been in prison become good citizens later. Some people think that they are the best people to talk to school students the danger of committing a crime. Do you agree or disagree?

1. Some people claim that newspaper is the best way to get the latest information because it has more influence than other forms of media. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

GRAMMAR FOR IELTS- HOW TO USE MODALS FOR OPINIONS & SUGGESTIONS.

Bạn muốn đạt 7.0+ trong IELTS Writing Task 2 cần phải sử dụng các cấu trúc ngữ pháp phong phú và đa dạng ( tiêu chí: Use a wide range of grammar structure).

Cách sử dụng a range of modals một cách tự nhiên khi mô tả opinions và đưa ra suggestions và predictions.

Sử dụng các từ/ cụm từ chỉ : chắc chắn hơn ( more certainty) hoặc ít chắc chắn ( less certainty).

Ví dụ:

Bạn không nên viết “Students will be more motived so they will work harder” hoặc “If students follow their passion they will be more creative.”

Thay vào đó, bạn nên viết như sau: “will probably be more motivated” or “can often lead to more creativity“

Good phrases for strong opinions

(Strong – 80%)

Poor phrases for strong opinions

(Too Strong – 100%)

Students will probably be more motivated……

…will be more likely to work harder.

If students follow their passion it can often lead to more creativity.

Students will be more motivated…

…so they will work harder.

If students follow their passion they will be more creative.

CÁCH VIẾT MỞ BÀI BAND 7.0+

Cách viết mở bài hay nên bao gồm main ideas cũng như clear opinion ( position) của bạn là tốt nhất. Việc đưa ra position của bạn sẽ giúp cho bài essay rõ ràng hơn và giúp bạn đạt điểm coherence & cohesion cũng như task achievement.

Ví dụ:

Topic: Governments should spend money on railways rather than roads.
